Scientific research by the Johns Hopkins University in the USA has shown that scuba diving greatly assists those with the most serious physical injuries and in particularly it is exceptionally successful in reducing reported symptoms of Post- Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
We are working with academic institutions in the UK in order to understand how scuba diving benefits those with both mental and physical conditions. Anecdotally we know from programme participants that the benefits are far reaching. Chris Middleton who lost both his legs in an IED explosion says “Deptherapy made me the man I am today”. This is supported by Kevin Pryke who severely injured his knee whilst on operations, “Ask anyone who knows me Deptherapy changed my life”. Participants often talk about the programme giving them their pride back and as adding value to their lives.
